The Christmas Pickle

December 24, 2013 By Micki Leave a Comment

The Christmas Pickle

When it comes to Christmas Family Traditions, my favorite would have to be finding The Christmas Pickle hidden in the Christmas Tree! Below you can read “The legend of the Christmas Pickle”

Oh the fun I remember searching with my siblings Christmas Morning… All three of us hoping to be the first to find that sneaky pickle and hand it to our Mother to get the special Present for doing so. Never anything to big or to fancy, Usually a pair of socks, a bag of candy, something simple like that.

BUT the best part… Being able to claim to the rest of the family, “I FOUND THE PICKLE!”

Our Mom still hides that pickle EVERY YEAR, and now my Son and nieces carry on this tradition! Though I will admit, it is hard for my myself, my sister, and our brother not to jump in and start searching, we let the kids have the fun!

The pickle search starts once the last gift has been opened! It usually does not take real long to find, it just depends on how old the children are and how sneaky it is hidden to blend in. (And let me tell you, as we got older, my mom REALLY  buried it deep in the tree!)

If you would like to start this fun tradition in your family, you can find one at most Christmas Stores or you can also find a nice selection HERE on Amazon (Ad/Affiliate Link) (I have recently seen one at my local target store, but it was large and an odd color and had a Christmas hat on.  It would not be to easy to hide that in a Christmas Tree and not be seen!)

There are many different rumors if this is German or where this “Tradition” came from, but honestly, that does not matter to me, it is now a tradition in my family and will hopefully continue in our family for generations to come!

The Legend of the Christmas Pickle

“A very old Christmas eve tradition in Germany was to hide a pickle [ornament] deep in the branches of the family Christmas Tree. The parents hung the pickle last after all the other ornaments were in place. In the morning they knew the most observant child would receive an extra gift from St. Nicholas. The first adult who finds the pickle traditionally gets good luck for the whole year.”

Holidays are perfect time to create lasting memories and for our family, and there’s no better place to create family magic than in the kitchen – a place where sweet dreams come true!

Every year my boys and I work to create an original cookie creation to give to family, friends, and teachers, but this year when Boy Wonder made it known that he was inspired to create a “magical cookie taste sensation” (his words), we knew something delicious was about to happen.

After careful consideration and a few experimental trials in the Mommyfriend kitchen, we are thrilled to present you with the aptly titled “Peppermint Pow Chocolate Delight Cookies”.

Perfectly pretty with a blast of peppermint “pow”, these cookies are certain to wow the taste buds of those near and dear. And parents, when the stakes are high, I know how much a fail-proof cookie recipe matters, which is why I trust Pillsbury refrigerated cookies every time.

Join the “magical cookie taste sensation” this holiday and create your very own Peppermint Pow Chocolate Delight Cookies!

ALL Target’s Hit by MAJOR Credit-Card Breach

December 19, 2013 By Micki 1 Comment

ALL Target’s Hit by MAJOR Credit-Card Breach

IF you have shopped in store at Target between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, and used a debit or credit card, YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS!

Target CONFIRMED rumors that a data breach may have affected about 40 million credit- and debit-card accounts at all of their 1,797 stores in the United States!

Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel in a statement said, “”We take this matter very seriously and are working with law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.”

The theft was national in scope and happened in stores, not online, and may have involved tampering with the machines customers use to swipe their cards when making purchases. The thieves gained access to data that is stored on the magnetic stripe on the back of the credit and debit cards.

When CBS News tried contacting Credit Card companies, An American Express spokeswoman said the company is aware of the incident and is putting fraud controls in place, but representatives for Visa and MasterCard declined to comment.

“The breach window is definitely expanding,” said one anti-fraud analyst at a top ten U.S. bank card issuer who asked to remain anonymous. “We can’t say for sure that all stores were impacted, but we do see customers all over the U.S. that were victimized.”  Reported Krebsonsecurity.com

If you discover any suspicious or unusual activity on your accounts or suspect fraud, be sure to report it immediately to your financial institutions.  In addition, you may contact the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”) or law enforcement to report incidents of identity theft or to learn about steps you can take to protect yourself from identity theft.  To learn more, you can go to the FTC’s Web site, at www.consumer.gov/idtheft, or call the FTC, at (877) IDTHEFT (438-4338) or write to Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Response Center, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580.

Please folks, watch your Credit Card statements closely if you have shopped at Target during these times. Keep an eye out for any suspicious activities. I will be watching daily! I HIGHLY recommend Credit Sesame to Monitor your credit accounts for suspicious activities, I PERSONALLY have been using them for over 3 years. It is absolutely 100% FREE and you will NEVER pay anything! They have been featured on CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Today Show, and The New York Times!

Here is a Letter & Info. Target released on their website this Morning https://corporate.target.com/discover/article/Important-Notice-Unauthorized-access-to-payment-ca

Glitter Light Bulb Ornaments

December 14, 2013 By Heather Rodefer Leave a Comment

Glitter Light Bulb Ornaments

Supplies

  • Mod Podge (Can be purchased for around $6 or you can follow this recipe and make your own for around $1.50)
  • Bulbs (Found in the Christmas aisle at Walmart for $0.99 for 4)
  • Paintbrush
  • Wax Paper
  • Glitter (I purchased a pack of 12 assorted colors  for $6.47 at Walmart)
  • Empty container (to catch excess glitter)

Directions

  1. Lay wax paper out on the table
  2. Cover glass part of bulb with a thin layer of Mod Podge
  3. Sprinkle glitter color of choice over the glue covered bulb, catching excess in an empty bowl
  4. Tap off excess glitter
  5. Gently lay your bulb onto the wax paper to dry
Once your bulbs are dried, you can place them in a holiday dish as a center piece, or tie a ribbon around the bottom and hang on your Christmas tree!

*Important note*  Once finished, it is no longer safe to use these bulbs, these are for decorative purpose only!
