Bristol Renaissance Faire

Looking for a fun filled day of family activity?  Why not head over to the Bristol Renaissance Faire?  It is a guaranteed great time for all ages! Open Saturdays and Sundays (and Labor Day Monday) from 10Am until 7PM, rain or shine!  Easy to find, right off of I94 at the WI/IL border!  They have everything from shopping and food to shows and rides!  And where else can you get dressed up in period clothing and let loose?  Don’t worry, you don’t HAVE to dress the part, but my family thinks that is half the fun!

I mean, what little girl (or adult for that matter) would’t want to walk around in a pretty dress and flowers in her hair?

caitlin renn dress

And where else can a strapping young lad run around in a kilt, carrying a dagger (they sell wooden and foam ones!) yelling “CHARGE!!!”braedon chargeAnd did I mention the shopping?  They sell clothes, gorgeous jewelry, hand made candles, weaponry, tapestries, leather bound journals, and SO MUCH MORE!!!!!!!

Oh,and the food!  Fresh chocolates, giant pickles, mushrooms, giant turkey legs, and the best ale around!  Give them a tip and they will ring a bell and yell HUZZAH!!!!!  The kids just LOVE that!

You will see women dressed as all sorts of faeries, trolls, the Queen and her Royal Court, sword fighters and jesters!

troll

Make sure you save enough time in your day to stop and watch some of the shows!  The Mud Show is an absolute MUST!  Grown men being silly throwing, dancing in, and eating mud…why would you even consider missing it?!  This is by far my children’s favorite show.  I personally LOVE MooNiE the Magnif’Cent!  A Mime with an attitude indeed!  And the audience participation makes this show even BETTER!!!!  And then there is always the classic jousting!  Pick your team, wave your flag, and cheer your Knight on through the all the activities!!

If you bring your children, I can almost guarantee they will insist on trying out some medieval rides!  It is fun to watch, because they are all powered by men!  The boat swing is a favorite among my kids!

renn faire ridesSo, what are you waiting for?  Head over HERE and sign up for their newsletter and you will get coupons sent straight to your inbox!  Looking for discounts on your admission and shopping?  Go on Labor Day (the last day of the faire) and a lot of places offer discounts to lessen inventory at the end of the season!  You can get some great deals!  Find all faire related info HERE!

Easter Cake

Ingredients

  • King Sized Kit Kat Bars
  • White Cake Mix
  • Frosting
  • Food Coloring
  • Marshmallow Peeps
  • Cadbury Chocolate Eggs
  • Chocolate Animal Candies
  • Green Crystal Sugar Sprinkles

Directions

  1. Prepare cake mix as directed and separate evenly into two bowls.  Add a few drops of food coloring of your choice to each bowl to make pastel colored cake.  Bake in round pans as directed and let cool.
  2. Frost between the 2 cake layers and then apply a generous amount of frosting around the edges of the cake.
  3. Place Kit Kat bars around the sides of the cake using the frosting to hold them in place, creating a fence around your cake.
  4. Apply green frosting to look like grass over the top of your cake.  I used Betty Crockers Cupcake Icing (it comes with all the tips you need).  After the grass is frosted on the cake, top with green crystal sugar sprinkles.
  5. Place chocolate animals and marshmallow peeps onto the top of the cake.  Arrange Cadbury chocolates to look like little easter eggs in your “fenced area”.

The Difference In “Redeemable At” and “Redeemable Only At”

March 12, 2014 By Heather Rodefer 5 Comments

The Difference In “Redeemable At” and “Redeemable Only At”

If you are like many others, you may be confused at the difference in coupons that print with “Redeemable at” and “Redeemable only at” on them!  There is a very simple explanation in how to use these coupons!

redeemable at couponYou can see in the above photo the coupon states “Redeemable at Walmart” in the lower right hand corner.  This coupon is a normal manufacturers coupon and can be used at ANY store.  They are just letting you know that Walmart will usually carry this product and the coupon can be used there if you so choose.

only at couponNotice in the Purex coupon above it states “Redeemable Only at Dollar General”.  The key word here is “ONLY”.  This coupon can only be used at Dollar General to purchase this item.

So, what have we learned?  If a coupon states “Redeemable ONLY at” you can use it at the store listed and no where else.  If a coupon states “Redeemable at” you may use it at the store of your choice!

Another Example from Coupon Site:

These BOTH will print saying “Mfg. Coupon at the top” ONLY the Jerky Coupon can be used at ANY STORE, EVEN THOUGH the Paper Coupon will print saying “Mfg. Coupon” at the top, because of the word ONLY, it is store specific!

Homemade Fruit Leather

Homemade Fruit Leather

dehydrator5

To help save money and make healthier snacks for my family, my husband bought me a food dehydrator for my birthday. (Very romantic, right?)

I am going to make Fruit Leather from applesauce. My dehydrator came with a nice tray for this, if you don’t have one, use wax paper.

dehydrator

Applesauce, check! I am going to use the cherry one!

dehydrator1

Spread your applesauce of choice on the tray.

dehydrator 2

Make sure to spread evenly to the edges!

dehydrator3

Turn on dehydrator to 135 degrees (this was recommended by my instruction book, yours may be different). We are going to let it run until the applesauce is no longer sticky or mushy, which can take 8-12 hours or more depending on how thick you make your layer of applesauce.

dehydrator4

Once your fruit leather is completely dry, you can peel it off the wax paper or tray, cut into individual portion sizes with a kitchen scissors or knife, and store in a sealed container (ziploc bags work great)!  My kids love to have this as an after dinner snack or in their lunch box for school!  It never lasts very long in our house!

Glitter Light Bulb Ornaments

December 14, 2013 By Heather Rodefer Leave a Comment

Glitter Light Bulb Ornaments

Supplies

  • Mod Podge (Can be purchased for around $6 or you can follow this recipe and make your own for around $1.50)
  • Bulbs (Found in the Christmas aisle at Walmart for $0.99 for 4)
  • Paintbrush
  • Wax Paper
  • Glitter (I purchased a pack of 12 assorted colors  for $6.47 at Walmart)
  • Empty container (to catch excess glitter)

Directions

  1. Lay wax paper out on the table
  2. Cover glass part of bulb with a thin layer of Mod Podge
  3. Sprinkle glitter color of choice over the glue covered bulb, catching excess in an empty bowl
  4. Tap off excess glitter
  5. Gently lay your bulb onto the wax paper to dry
Once your bulbs are dried, you can place them in a holiday dish as a center piece, or tie a ribbon around the bottom and hang on your Christmas tree!

*Important note*  Once finished, it is no longer safe to use these bulbs, these are for decorative purpose only!
