Couponing for a reason & ’tis the season!

I often get asked by not only family and friends, but also by many of my fans who follow either my Facebook page, Wisconsin Coupon Clippers (Nationwide) or my website, midwestcouponclippers.net, “Why do you invest the hours that you do?” The photos above and below SAY IT ALL! These are from a loyal fan of mine named Brooke who is from Wisconsin but now lives on the East Coast. NOT ONLY has couponing benefited her family, but take a minute to read how many others it will effect because of her efforts! NOW, multiply that number by all the other couponers that follow my page and do EXACTLY what Brooke is doing and helping others with their skill of couponing!

My Message from Brooke with picture: “Here’s just a small portion of items being donated for Christmas (pulled a few items out of boxes for picture). 3 families, an individual, and a women’s shelter on my Christmas list this year!”

November 10, 2014 By Micki Leave a Comment

recall alertMcDonalds Recall: Hello Kitty Whistle in Happy Meals

McDonald’s has received two reports of children who coughed out pieces of the whistle that they had sucked into their mouths, including one child who received medical attention.  Consumers should immediately take the whistle away from children and return it to any McDonald’s for a free replacement toy and either a yogurt tube or a bag of apple slices.

Distributed exclusively at McDonald’s restaurants nationwide from October 2014 through the first week of November 2014 with Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals.

For additional information, contact McDonald’s at (800) 244-6227 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. CT, seven days a week, or visit the firm’s website.

Distributor:  McDonald’s Corp., of Oakbrook, Ill.

Name of product: “Hello Kitty® Birthday Lollipop” Whistles

Hazard: Components inside of the whistle can detach, posing choking and aspiration hazards to young children.

Units:  About 2.3 million in the U.S. In addition, about 200,000 were distributed in Canada.

Description: The recalled whistles are red and were included in a plastic Hello Kitty figurine holding a pink heart-shaped lollipop.  The whistle can be removed and used to make sounds by inhaling or exhaling through the mouthpiece.  When closed, the figurine measures about 3 inches in height and width and 1 3/4 inches in depth.  The whistle measures about 1 3/4 inches in height and width and 3/4 inches in depth.  A picture of Hello Kitty appears on both sides of the whistle.  The text “©1976, 2014 SANRIO CO., LTD.” appears above Hello Kitty’s face on the whistle, and “Made for McDonald’s China CCW Chine” appears below Hello Kitty’s face on the whistle.  The bag in which the toy is packaged includes the text “Hello Kitty® Birthday Lollipop” and the number “6” in the upper right corner.

The Teal Pumpkin Project

October 14, 2014 By Micki Leave a Comment

teal pumpkin project

The Teal Pumpkin Project

FARE is encouraging communities to start a new tradition that will help make this holiday season less scary for children with food allergies: the Teal Pumpkin Project. This campaign encourages people to raise awareness of food allergies by providing non-food treats for trick-or-treaters and painting a pumpkin teal – the color of food allergy awareness – to place in front of their house along with a free printable sign from FARE to indicate they have non-food treats available.

The Teal Pumpkin Project is designed to promote safety, inclusion and respect of individuals managing food allergies – and to keep Halloween a fun, positive experience for all.

Download FARE’s Non-Food Treats Halloween Poster to show your support

Download a flyer about the Teal Pumpkin Project and share it to spread the word

Questions and Answers About the Teal Pumpkin Project

Questions and Answers About the Teal Pumpkin Project
From: http://www.foodallergy.org/teal-pumpkin-project#QA

What’s the Teal Pumpkin Project?
The Teal Pumpkin Project encourages people to start a new tradition and raise awareness of food allergies during the Halloween season by:

  • providing non-food treats for trick-or-treaters, and
  • painting a pumpkin teal – the color of food allergy awareness – to place in front of their house along with a free-printable sign from FARE to indicate they have non-food treats available.

Halloween can be a tricky time – quite literally – for families managing food allergies because many traditional Halloween treats aren’t safe for children with life-threatening food allergies. The Teal Pumpkin Project is designed to promote safety, inclusion and respect of individuals managing food allergies – and to keep Halloween a fun, positive experience for all. The idea for the Teal Pumpkin Project originated with the Food Allergy Community of East Tennessee (FACET), and FARE is pleased to be bringing it to the attention of families across the country for the first time this year.

What do I do if I want to participate?
Participating is simple – paint a pumpkin teal, pick up some inexpensive toys (ideas can be found on our blog) and download FARE’s sign to show that you have non-food treats to hand out. It’s a simple gesture that can have a big impact. You can also download FARE’s promotional flyer to circulate in your local community so that your neighbors can participate too!

Why teal?
Teal is the color of food allergy awareness.

Are you taking away the traditional aspect of collecting candy on Halloween?
Our goal is simply to ensure that all kids with food allergies are able to enjoy Halloween, an event for the entire community. Trick-or-treaters typically receive pounds of candies and chocolates, and we’re sure they will continue to collect plenty of candy this year. Many kids, whether they have food allergies or not, enjoy the experience of receiving little toys and other fun items that they can keep.

Do kids with life-threatening food allergies actually trick-or-treat?
Yes! Who wouldn’t want to participate in such a fun tradition shared with friends, classmates and family? Many kids with food allergies go out to trick-or-treat just like their friends, but they have come to understand that most of their fun will come from dressing up in a costume. They know they’ll give much of their candy away because it’s not safe for them. We hope the Teal Pumpkin Project becomes a tradition for years to come so that kids will know that when they knock on someone’s door that has a teal pumpkin, they’ll have a treat they can fully enjoy.

Are there any non-food treats that I should avoid?
There are a few considerations when choosing which non-food items to hand out. First, some non-food items still contain allergens, such as Play-Doh, which contains wheat. Additionally, try to choose latex-free items, as there are children who also have latex allergies.

Can I still pass out candy?
Sure – just do it safely! The point of the Teal Pumpkin Project is to make trick-or-treating as inclusive as possible. You can keep the experience safe by keeping your food treats and non-food treats in separate bowls, and by asking trick-or-treaters if they have any food allergies or giving them a choice of which treat they’d like: candy, or a non-food item.

Do kids really like non-food treats?
They don’t just like them, they love them! Finding a unique treat at your house will be a fun surprise. Glow bracelets, for example, are a great option – they are inexpensive, kids can wear them throughout the night, and parents are appreciative because they help make kids more visible after nightfall. Other non-food items, such as pencils and stickers, can be used at home and at school long after candy has run out or expired.

How do I get my neighbors involved?
Print out some of FARE’s flyers and put them in your neighbors’ mailboxes. If you have a neighborhood email listserv, you can send out an email about the initiative, including a link to FARE’s website. You can also reach out to your local library, dentist/doctor offices, schools, or community buildings to see if they would be willing to help you post signs or get the word out. Share information on social media, and post a picture of your teal pumpkins when you have them near your door! Don’t forget to use the hashtag #TealPumpkinProject when you post!

Am I am Hoarder? 40 Twelve Pack Double Rolls, $2.00 Each ($158.80 Savings!)

September 29, 2014 By Micki Leave a Comment

scotts toilet paperRecently my local store had an AMAZING sale on Scott’s Toilet paper. It was on sale for $6.00 a pack. Plus, there is a $1/1 Insert Coupon that is available that I was able to double, and on top of that, with a Kimberly Clark Deal when you bought $30 worth of their products, you got a $10 Instant Savings! Here is what I did.

Bought (5) Twelve Pack Double Rolls of Scotts Bath Tissue
Sale Price: $6.00 each = $30.00 for Five
Doubles (5) $1/1 Scott Bath Tissues Rolls SS 09/14/14 (Deducts $10.00)
Instant Savings: Minus $10
Final Price: ONLY $2.00 each = $0.16 each for a Double Roll (Like paying $0.08 each for a Single Roll) UNHEARD OF Price!

Now let me explain, I DID wait until the VERY LAST DAY of this sale (It ran for THREE WEEKS) to do this. (I did not get my coupons I ordered in time to pre-order or I would have) I always suggest pre-ordering ANYTIME you will be getting over five of the same items. I also DID NOT get all of these from one store! I got them at six different stores from Fond du lac to Shawano, Wisconsin so I DID NOT clear a store out! (Plus I did not waste gas, we were going away on a little mini vacation over night)

Does getting this amount make me a “Hoarder?” I know for a fact some people will say YES! But I very, VERY rarely do this. I am not one to stockpile a lot of stuff, Usually my maximum is five per product. This is the brand we use, but usually we use the 1,000 sheet regular kind. In stores, the cheapest you will usually find it is $5.97. That means overall, I am going to save $158.80! And again like I said, that is $158.80 savings on a product we REGULARLY USE! Wouldn’t you do the same?
