Due to the drought in various parts of the country
Animal Control Services are advising pet owners to
not leave out any food or water because nuisance animals
(such as skunks) are looking for water and food.
So what happens when your dog decides to get
up close and personal with a skunk???
I have a 12 pound Maltese so a tomato bath was out of the question.
My neighbor gave me this, skunk remedy and
I have had the pleasure to
confirm that it works on 3 different occasions.
Keep in mind it does not 100% get rid of the smell, but
it does make it bearable.
Skunk Remedy for Dog 1 Quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide 1/4 Cup Baking Soda 1 Teaspoon of Liquid Dish Soap or Shampoo (I use Dawn)
**Be sure to not get this in the dogs eyes**
Mix the above, wet down dog, work the solution
thoroughly into dog’s coat and leave on for 3-4
minutes. Then rinse out.
You can double or triple the above recipe depending on
the size of the dog. I have also repeated if after rinsing if
there was any trace smell. Keep in mind using this recipe
is so much cheaper then buying the “skunk remover” products
at the pet stores.
