ALL Target’s Hit by MAJOR Credit-Card Breach
IF you have shopped in store at Target between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, and used a debit or credit card, YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS!
Target CONFIRMED rumors that a data breach may have affected about 40 million credit- and debit-card accounts at all of their 1,797 stores in the United States!
Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel in a statement said, “”We take this matter very seriously and are working with law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.”
The theft was national in scope and happened in stores, not online, and may have involved tampering with the machines customers use to swipe their cards when making purchases. The thieves gained access to data that is stored on the magnetic stripe on the back of the credit and debit cards.
When CBS News tried contacting Credit Card companies, An American Express spokeswoman said the company is aware of the incident and is putting fraud controls in place, but representatives for Visa and MasterCard declined to comment.
“The breach window is definitely expanding,” said one anti-fraud analyst at a top ten U.S. bank card issuer who asked to remain anonymous. “We can’t say for sure that all stores were impacted, but we do see customers all over the U.S. that were victimized.” Reported Krebsonsecurity.com

I work at a bank and we advise our customers if you think your card has been compromised DO NOT just watch your statements. Call the number on the back of your card ASAP and report that your card has been compromised and to lock it out and get a new card ordered. Thieves will wait a couple months before they use your information so it is better to be proactive.
